With the boom of‚ Garra Rufa Fish Spa’s in Hull, I noticed that “Delacy Spa” in Beverley’s Saturday Market is now advertising they too also offer this Spa Treatment. don’t the fish potentially spread infection?

I think that watching the video and seeing how nice De Lacy Spa is I may book myself in for 30 minutes. Video very informative (if I don’t win)
In reply to Chris above – Not an experts view or comment or on behalf of De Lacy and other Spas, but….. We did notice at De LacySpa they do check feet for cuts, grazes and marks on feet and you would be refused to use the Spa if a cut was found for health reasons. We also noticed people washed their feet before entering the tanks and they have a UV Lights installed as Ultraviolet radiation Kills any Bacteria.
In reply to Chris if you have a look at their website it should answer your question and put your mind at rest. Im sure if you booked in a treatment with them they would also put your mind at rest and explain things to you. Kerris looks very approachable on the video. http://www.delacyspa.co.uk/contents/index.php?s=garrarufa
I think the treatment looks fab and the spa looks very welcoming. The video has definately sold it to me. I think that everyone deserves abit of “me†time and this looks the perfect place to do just that! I can only imagine what the full body treatment must feel like!
In reply to Chris. The BBC article is a story relating to looking at the proceedures involved and not stating that fish spas spread infection. There have been salons shut down for having communal fish tanks and I would look for a fish spa salon like De Lacy who as you can see on the video and the website that the tanks are individual. Also De Lacy Spa is staffed by qualified beauty therapists and not just sales assistants, this means that they can examine your feet and legs and advise accordingly. Many high street fish spas do not do this proceedure.
Finally, at De Lacy Spa each tank has its own independent 5 process filtration system. The complete tank of water is filtered every 4 minutes and the environmental health officers and RSPCA inspectors have
complimented the salon on this approach to health and safety and animal welfare.
This is cruel and plainly exploitative of animals. Putting feet which have been disinfected, into tanks with fish, who are sensitive to water and environment changes is putting their health in danger. They have no enrichment at all.
People are exploiting living creatures for their own selfish business practice. As for a bit of ‘me time’; has anyone ever thought about anything other than themselves?
“exploiting living creatures” ? Best become a mud hut dwelling, land ploughing (not using ox or cow) Vegan/vegetarian nomad.
Majority of ploughing is done by machine these days. There’s a difference between accidental exploitation (those animals killed in harvest for example) and those animals deliberately used for absolutely no purpose other than a marketing gimmick (garra rufa fish).
