Pet Respect is a new‚ charity operating in the Hull area our main priority is to engage as many primary school children as possible.
By Using innovative ideas we promote responsible pet ownership, anti-animal cruelty addressing issues of bullying and promoting our motto
The Golden Rule in life‚ ¢â‚¬â€œ
Treat others as you would like be treated yourself.
Pet Respect is run by Kim Hepple (the founder of the project) and Marina Hartley,‚ both of whom are big animal lovers.
How she goes about is to work with risk children, using communicationanimals
I have worked with young people as a Sports Development and Community Participation officer for over 10 years. Whilst working for Hull Sports Development I worked alongside at risk children and provided them with role models and activities to divert them from crime and anti social behaviour.‚ Through my work I identified a need to teach respect about all living things.‚ Not all inner city children have the opportunity to be among animals and to learn to respect and interact with them. Those that have pets do not understand their needs During my time at Hull City Council, I used to take children in the care system to Hull Animal Welfare Trust to walk and play with the rescued dogs. The young people learnt many skills and how to socialise with the volunteers
My last job included organising events and activities for young people, community engagement, risk assessment, health and safety, grant applications, evaluation and output monitoring.
I have qualifications in First Aid, Teacher Training, Fitness, yoga, healthy eating, and various Hull City Council training courses.
Throughout my childhood, I spent a lot of time campaigning for animal rights, and continue to do so.‚ I have always loved animals and wanted to be a vegetarian when I was 10 years old but my mother wouldn¢â‚¬â„¢t let me!‚ She gave in when I was 14, I am now 49 (still 18 in my head!) and have been a vegan for the last 6 years.
I live with my husband, Peter and my 14 year old Cairn Terrier, Skipper (who thinks he is a Rottweiler!)
I resigned from Hull City Council in April 2010 to concentrate on Pet Respect. I am hoping to teach more yoga classes (to pay the bills!)
If I had one wish it would be to end all cruelty in the world (animals and humans)
